Are you avoiding something in life you believe may help you out but you’re afraid to try it because it’s something new?
Even though you hear from many people, it’s something great, you still believe differently….
I’ve been like that for decades.
I’ve avoided meditation until now. I used to see it as something scary. Until I started using the practices daily in my life then everything changed.
Meditation is one of the best tools for combating stress.
It’s a tool I use every single day without fail and I’m going to show you how to add meditation into your life.
My name’s Dr Annika and I help stressed out female business leaders to get their life back on track by reducing stress.
Back in the 60s, the Beatles were my absolute favourite band. There was this fight between being a Beatles fan and being a Rolling Stones fan. I was always a Beatles fan and always will be!
But towards the end of the 60s, George Harrison started acting different. He got in touch with a guy called Ravi Shankar and they started practicing meditation together.
There was so much ‘hush hush’ around it. They said you have to have this personal mantra and everything else. I immediately thought that this wouldn’t be for me whatsoever. I spent a lot of my time reading science books and this didn’t sound very scientific to me at that time.
I’d been avoiding meditation for years and never really looked into it. If somebody talked about it, I’d say ‘ok that sounds great ’ and let them get on with it but it wasn’t for me.
Until a couple of years ago when I was at a huge event with Brendon Burchard…
If you haven’t heard of him, he’s a great guy on the personal development front and lives in California. He said something that I’ll never forget.
He asked the audience ‘how many of you practice meditation?’ And it was only about 10% of the audience who put their hands up out of a thousand people!
So I thought, it can’t be possible to meditate with only 10% of your audience believes in the meditation mantra. I was so stressed out! I was one of those people who didn’t believe in meditation.
He said ‘close your eyes, we’re going to do this together… All you have to do is repeat the word ‘release’.
We closed our eyes and sat there.
Brendon said ‘release, release, release for 10 minutes.’
But guess what?
After 10 minutes, I felt ever so relaxed. It got me thinking ‘Annika, what have you been missing out on all these years!’
I ignored what everyone was telling me about meditation. I should have looked into meditation much earlier, that’s for sure!
The lesson from this is you shouldn’t be afraid if people ask you to try new things that seem different.
If you don’t like it, that’s fine too. Just don’t do it again. But it’s good practice to try something new at least once.
If you want something, you’ve never had, you’ve got to try something you’ve never done.
Today I use this tool everywhere. Whether I go by bus or train, I can simply close my eyes and have a few minutes to myself.
If I get stressed, I meditate. If I can’t sleep, I keep repeating the phrase ‘release’ and I’ll fall straight to sleep.
