It’s summertime right now so today I want to talk about upcoming holiday (or vacation) and the eating issue that crops up at this time of year.

Now you’re going to wonder what does that mean? Is there an eating issue in the summertime?

Yes there is.

I have so many clients talking about this and they’re asking questions because we have been working so hard for a long time to get them set up to:

  • have regular food intake
  • have a good food intake
  • eat the right stuff
  • eat at the proper times

and because of these great new habits:

  • they’re getting so much more energy
  • they’re feeling great
  • they’ve lost weight
  • they don’t have brain fog at work anymore

So they really don’t want to get back into bad habits again and they’re afraid that will happen when they’re on vacation.

When you’re on vacation with your husband he might not have the same preferences as you when we’re talking about food.

He might not even like you doing diets, and I’m not even talking about doing real diets I’m just talking about eating properly while you’re on vacation because you might be making him feel bad. So that’s one pressure to eat badly, because I’m sure there’s lots of justification about why it’s ok to eat badly, I mean you’re on vacation and you’re meant to treat yourself, right?

Then you have the kids who want more what we would call the fast food and the junk food and it’s right there in front of you, tempting you.

The same applies when maybe you’re going to your in-laws or your parents for visits or staying away with someone for a few days. Wherever it is you’re going for a break doesn’t matter because you are scared to death that during your vacation or break you’re going to lose all the hard work you put in to get yourself on track.

I usually just say don’t worry, it’s nothing to worry about because two three four weeks will not be that big a difference if you fail to eat well, because you can get back on track afterwards. You have done the hard work to get it into the regular habits and it’s going to be so much easier to get back going back again.

I want to give you a few tips on how you can manage things so that your vacation time is not a stressed time for you when it comes to your eating routine.

The thing is if you are just focused on what you’re eating then it’s going to be a hard time and I don’t want you to focus on that. I want you to be happy and have a good time and be able to live fully during that time.

You see there are two different problems or issues that we can look at here.

  1. Eating Regularly – your regularity might be not too good in the summertime.

  1. Food Content – the amount of food you’re consuming and what’s in it.

So those are the two things that you need to work with. And what I usually advise my clients is this:

Usually, lady leaders have big handbags and they have all these different things in it so I usually suggest you put one more thing in there, and that is a package of either cranberry, blueberries, nuts, almonds, dried fruit etc. All those things that you can buy already packed up and they don’t take that much room.

You can pack as many of these small packets of dried fruit and nuts as you need because they will last for some time. They’re your little emergency kit because if you do not get a good breakfast one morning in a hotel, or wherever you are, then you have something good to eat. Your stomach will feel good and your brain will feel good.

It’s a great idea for an emergency snack to help you make the right food choice but just remember that it’s not supposed to be extra snacks on the side.

One last thing – if you go to a friends home or maybe your in-laws for a meal and they try to give you too much food you just say I am just having one serving thanks. It was very good but I’m just having one serving, and that’s absolutely fine to do.

So maybe if you’re with your mother in law and she gets really sad if you don’t take a second serving then you do take a second sermon and you smile and say it was really good. It doesn’t really matter, I mean, you’re not going to die from it!

And if that happens more than once no problem because you’re going to get back on track in the fall anyway. We will have another post about that in the fall to make sure you’re all back on track.

You don’t need to worry about the vacation food thing because it isn’t really a problem. Just think of what you want and try and choose something good from the menu and if you still get hungry then do take from your emergency reserve in your bag.

So happy vacation. I really hope you’re going to have a really nice vacation because you deserve that. And if you need help or to discuss this or something else then just click here and we’ll get connected.

See you next week.
